More Rugby

First, thanks to all who did the survey for me from my last entry. Unfortunately, we didn't win this go around, but good news is that those points will still count for the fall round.

Sunday went out for an Old Boy's game and had a good time. we played against the french embassy team, and a lot of them were NOT old boys, some I think were barely old enough to drive. no pics, as I was without Dax. I have a few bruises, and a bit of soreness across my shoulders.

I'm feeling a bit frustrated with all the overcast rainy weather on Tuesdays and Thursdays lately. it means no practice for the kids, and they really need it. Hopefully Thursday will be good weather as well as Saturday and next week so we are ready for our first games on the 27th.

that's about all for now.

Need some help

I found a potential source for a grant of $2,500 for the youth team I coach here in Baltimore. I need your help though. It all depends on how many points the team gets. I know you are not the parents of these kids, but go onto the site and take the responsible parent course and quiz. Make sure it gets credited to Baltimore-Chesapeake RFC Youth. Have your girlfriends, boyfriends, co-workers, whoever you can think of to do this. The grant period for this year end on May 31st. the link is here: WWW.ResponsibleSports.com/grant

Thanks for the assistance.

Finally taking a break form all the rugby today. Just had dinner, and now relaxing before heading back over for the big finale game and the drinking. Flight in last night was rough the entire way. The boys won both games today, so we head into the winners bracket for tomorrow's games. Hopefully we'll do real well, and win the big prize.

ON another note, last night as we were waiting for our flight, I saw the pilots for several of the flights out through BWI, and I thought they all looked to young to even be driving. does this mean I am getting old?

if we want others to help us, first we must help ourselves

I think the greater GLBT community need to look at itself and the internal discrimination that goes on and work on removing that as it tries to convince other minorities to accept us and join in the fight with us. When we marginalize bisexuals as being "in denial" about their gayness, or African American gay males call someone "White" because of how they act despite their skin color,or any of many other examples dealing with age, body shape, body hair, etc. These acts all may make someone wonder why they should bother to help something that is complaining about how it is discriminated upon but then tears itself apart for little differencesof people who are part of that group. Sometimes in order to move forward in the world, we need to look inside and fix ourselves before we can expect others to accept us and move forward.

It's easy to blame external elements for problems, and there are plenty of them out there, but it seems to me that there are plenty of things to fix in our own house. the gay community wants everyone to accept it, but it seems to me that in my years of being in the community that it tends to try to exclude many in it's attempt to be everything. Someone like me, who can fix cars, build things, and plays sports is generally either put upon a pedestal or villanized because of the perceived "straightness" of our actions. Those who don't fit the perfect body type, or the correct age group are ridiculed and made fun of. So, if we want the world to accept us the way we are, then we need to start accepting each other for the way we are.

Knee Update...

Ok, for those who read about my accident to my knee at practice in the spring, I finally went to a doctor a couple of weeks ago. It was confirmed as an ACL Tear, and so I will be going in for surgery. The date is set for the 20th, so I will hopefully be fine by the party, but at most I will be on crutches. How funny it will be with my costume is still up in the air. I should be all good for next spring. After next Sunday I won't be able to ride my motorcycle again, but it's pretty much the end of the season anyway.

I know what we shoudl do with that 700 Billion, other than give it all to me...

I think I have come up with the solution to this mortgage fallout crisis:
Take the money that congress is bickering over right now, and anyone who is on the verge of foreclosure can go to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac (which the gov’t now owns), and get a loan for EXACTLY THE AMOUNT they owe on their mortgage. They will get a reasonable rate, none of this balloon interest crap, and the new mortgage will be aligned to help their finances, this may mean a longer than 30 year loan, but it fixes their housing problem, and they can't get a new mortgage till half of this mortgage is paid off. This also fixes the Bank issues, as they will now have the money they would have lost on the foreclosure. No Fat-Cat corporate types get their grubby paws on the money, and it bails out the citizen while not directly giving them money, rather it is a loan. I know I could live with this, even if it is the idiot’s own damn fault for getting in a mortgage they couldn’t afford on a house they really couldn’t afford in a market that anyone with an ounce of sense should have known would eventually burst.

Nope, none of that for you! It seems you to like to be on your own in the wide, wild world.

When you come of age, you can ply the seas in a fine old ship, or trek across virgin territory with a compass and some vague notions. Uncomplicated and unfettered, you get to explore and confront the unknowable challenges ahead of you.

Take Reincarnation Placement Exam at HelloQuizzy

Weekend Update (finally)

Friday's drive down to the beach was relatively easy. Not much Traffic, and we were at the house around 7pm. The boys already there were already drinking, and after dumping my stuff in a room, finding a safe place to park, and eating some dinner, I joined them. We drank at the house till 10, then went barhopping. I have no idea what time I got home, but know it was after 1230. Walking back from the bar, I ran into some other Ruggers, and they kept calling me #6 the entire way. I guess I should say that I had on one of my jerseys, and it had 6 on the back.

Saturday was a hungover first game, that I barely knew What the fuck i was doing in. I did some good Hooking, and won each of our put-ins, but was not really up for all the running. Second game was better, I had some food in me, and was re hydrated. Got tackled, and messed up my right pinky. I've been keeping it splinted to my ring finger, and it is much better, but the last joint is still slightly bent. The youngin's won all three of their games on Saturday, though there was some drama over a 10 year old touch judge that i'll try to write about later.

After the games, one of the guys and I went and grabbed some Mexican and drank some Margarettas. After that, we headed back to the house and chilled, not taking part in the craziness that ensued. Let's just say that things were done that even I think were too Queer. I was woken with someone leaning over me around 4 in the morning. Having gone through my Hubby's Zombie training, the reflexes kicked in and he got a foot to the belly pushing him away.

Sunday the boys were very hung over, and didn't do well in the semifinal game. my car group headed back after that game, so I have no idea if they got 3rd or not. Guess I should check.

It was a fun weekend, but I am too old to keep up with 20somethings when it comes to drinking for an entire weekend.

Summer's almost over & it feels like I didn't do anything

Spent all of July busy with Youth Rugby, and when I didn't have that, there was something else going on.

The Kids did rather well in the end of season tournament. They had a tendency to complain if things were not going their way that the "ref had it out for them", or "they cheated". I guess it is part of growing up in the 'Hood. But after the last game for them in the tournament, I heard one of them actually say that the other team had been better, and that our kids had played the best they could. it was much better than what I was used to hearing after a loss. Hopefully next year we can continue to build from where we started this year.

We had fun at Shoreleave, but we both agreed that unless it is someone we are Dying to see, we'll be passing on Shoreleave. It was ok this year, but it gets so crowded and it's just starting to feel too big to me.

I have a Rugby Tournament out in Delaware next weekend. I just hope my knee can hold out. It's been doing ok at practice, but every once in a while, it'll twinge. I'll post after I get back and let you all know how it went.

we still have to visit some of the people who missed the Luau, so still have may weekends of stuff to do. never seems like we have enough time to do all that we want to do.

Motorcycles and Morons

Since the weather has been finally cooperating, I have been riding the motorcycle to work most days. This had lead me to fear for my life. I trust my riding skills, and am still here, but some of the drivers of this region have left much to be desired.
First, there was the morning the minivan cut in front of me and slammed on the brakes. Now, I may be smaller than a car, but I still need space to stop in. I had some choice words for that soccermom mobile. But it is still not the worst driver I have encountered.
Next, I'll tell you about the sudden stop I had to do when traffic stopped to admire some car broken down on the side of the road. This required me to jam on the breaks, and I fishtailed twice as I came to a complete stop. Thankfully the car behind me had good brakes. Still, this is not the worst of my encounters with Motorists.
This morning, I had an Idiot tailgating me, TAILGATING A BIKE! I was doing more than the speed limit, but it wasn't enough for this asshole. He then followed me onto the back roads to my office. I pulled over, and he actually flipped me off as he past me. I screamed at him that he was an ass to tailgate a bike. This has got to be the worst thing I have encountered so far on the Motorcycle.

All the crazies on their cell phones, eating, drinking, texting, etc. really don't hold a candle to an ass who tailgates a guy on a bike. I hope there is a special place in the afterlife for him, or he comes back as a bug.
I ask all of you who drive to please be considerate of cycleists, we don't have much protecting us, so be considerate of those of us on two wheels.

belated Birthday and flat tires

Last night we had a belated birthday for Marctic. It was food and fun at Dave & Busters. On the way out, however we had a small problem. At one of the stops, this guy didn't stop, I had to do a sudden stop, and when I did I must have hit a nail, but we didn't know that it had caused a flat tire at that point. After finding an open space, we discovered the flat tire. Now, I can handle a flat tire, so that really wasn't the problem. the problem was that I had no clue how to get the spare tire down, and no flashlight to see into the hole for the tool to wrench it down. I busied myself with getting the old one off and asked strangers if they had a flashlight each time someone walked by. Finally, the guy parked next to us came up and luckily had a flashlight and was nice enough to help us out. Got the tire down, changed them out and were on our way about a half hour after we got the flat tire.
I have got to get one of those flashlights that you shake to power up for the truck so I am not stuck like this again. But I did learn how to get my spare down.
